The compliance deadline for 14 CFR Part 3 § 3.303 is quickly approaching and requires FAA certificated airmen WITHOUT a physical U.S. mailing address to designate an agent for service. If you have an FAA certificate but don’t have a physical U.S. mailing address, you must choose someone to receive FAA related mail for you. This person, called your “agent for service,” is responsible for making sure you get all important FAA letters and documents on time.

Any airman holding an FAA-issued certificate who resides outside the United States must designate a U.S. agent for service. This agent acts as the official point of contact for all FAA-related correspondence.
An agent for service is a designated individual or organization legally responsible for facilitating communication between the FAA and airmen. They ensure consistent availability to receive, manage, and respond to FAA communications, including compliance notices, updates, and other essential documents.

All FAA certificated pilot, mechanics, and flight engineers must maintain a U.S. agent for service if he or she does NOT have a primary U.S. address.
(1) July 7, 2025, for holders of any certificate, rating, or authorization issued under part 47, 61, 63, 65, 67, or 107. These individuals who fail to timely designate a U.S. agent for service and comply with the requirements under this subpart may not exercise the privileges of any certificate, rating, or authorization issued under part 47, 61, 63, 65, 67, or 107, and an individual aircraft owner’s aircraft registration certificate will be considered ineffective; and
(2) January 6, 2025, for applicants of any certificate, rating, or authorization issued under part 47, 61, 63, 65, 67, or 107. An applicant who fails to designate a U.S. agent for service and comply with the requirements under this subpart shall not be issued a certificate, rating, or authorization under part 47, 61, 63, 65, 67, or 107.
